VMware today announced the release of vSphere, VMware’s next generation suite of virtual infrastructure technology. Available from May 21st 2009, vSphere replaces VI3.5, VMware’s former product set of core virtual infrastructure products. VMware also today announced the release of vCentre 4.0, VMware’s new virtualisation management software to replace Virtual Centre 2.5.
vSphere features several elements of additional functionality and includes greater capacity for integration with supporting third party hardware and applications. vSphere solutions fall into three areas of infrastructure virtualisation technology, which include; vServer, vStorage and vNetwork, that together abstract server, storage and networking resources for the lowest overhead and create a unified, shared platform for maximum output from applications.
vSphere provides the foundation for cloud computing, allowing IT departments to operate as an internal hosting provider the datacentre. Further to this, with the advanced functionality and manageability of vCentre 4.0, vSphere will operate seamlessly with resources provisioned by external service providers, creating a highly flexible and fully scalable virtual environment.
Prolinx, a VMware Premier Partner and Authorised Consultant, is now delivering VMware infrastructure upgrade workshops that explore and assess the impact that vSphere will have on people, processes and IT infrastructure, allowing customers to map the strongest route forward in support of their long term strategy. The workshops will alleviate any element of complexity or uncertainty and help ensure your organisation fully leverages the efficiency, control and choice VMware’s next generation of virtualisation technology has to offer.
