Citrix Drives Mainstream Adoption of Desktop Virtualisation with XenDesktop 4
XenDesktop 4 Delivers all types of virtual desktop from a single, integrated solution
XenDesktop 4, the new Virtual Desktop product from Citrix is the first in the industry to support every major desktop virtualisation model in a single, integrated solution. XenDesktop 4 with its new FlexCast delivery technology enables improved ROI, simplified management and extends the benefits of virtualisation throughout the organisation.
XenDesktop 4 further simplifies desktop computing by integrating all the capabilities of Citrix XenApp, enabling organisations to deliver on-demand applications to physical or virtual desktops as a seamless part of their overall desktop strategy.
The product includes significant developments to its innovative HDX technology, which offers end users a high definition experience and also introduces multiple enhancements that further extend the value of Microsoft Windows and Windows Server platforms.
“People today need to work in entirely new ways, powered by the connectivity of the internet, an explosion of new devices and the limitless promise of the web.” said Mark Templeton, president and CEO, Citrix Systems. “And they need to do it without being confined to ordinary desktops that are locked to an office, a device, or a network. Desktop virtualisation has the power to make all this possible.”
Making Desktop Computing Fast, Simple and Flexible: Users can instantly and securely gain access to their full Windows desktop, regardless of the type of device they choose to use. Desktop administration time can be significantly reduced, with new desktops provisioned or changed in a fraction of the time.
Extending Desktop Virtualisation to Every User with FlexCast: Flexcast is a powerful delivery technology that allows organisations to provision a complete range of virtual desktops to all users and devices, all orchestrated from one, centrally-managed solution:
- For task workers sharing a similar set of applications, a server-based virtual desktop model presents significant cost savings by allowing the provision of up to 500 standardised desktops from each physical server.
- For users requiring personalised desktops, a hosted VM-based model supports up to 70 individual, centrally managed desktops per physical server on dedicated virtual machines.
- Power users with high-end professional applications can be provisioned with dedicated processing power by hosting desktops on individual blade servers within the datacentre.
- Client side options include the ability to stream desktops to each user’s device to run locally, whilst retaining central management of the OS, applications and data.
- Organisations have the option to deliver applications as an on-demand service to existing desktops, combining many of the benefits of centralised management with minimal setup costs. Virtual applications can also work offline, presenting a popular choice for mobile users.
